About us
War Memorial Stadium, located in Little Rock, Arkansas, holds a unique place in the state’s history. Completed in 1947 and formally dedicated in 1948, the stadium was erected as a “living memorial” to the Arkansas veterans who gave their lives in service during World War I and World War II. Its dedication to those who served elevates its status far beyond that of a typical sports venue.
Architectural Heritage and Evolution
The original design, influenced by the late Art Deco style, opened with a seating capacity of just over 31,000. It quickly became the premier venue in Central Arkansas. Over the decades, the stadium has undergone several significant expansions and renovations, increasing its capacity to over 54,000 and integrating modern technological and structural upgrades while maintaining its historic charm.
- 1948 Dedication: The stadium’s first event was a University of Arkansas Razorbacks football game, formally dedicated by Medal of Honor recipient Maurice Britt.
- Historic Register: The venue’s cultural significance was formally recognized when it was listed on the Arkansas Register of Historic Places in 1998.
- Ongoing Vitality: The stadium continues to be updated, ensuring it remains safe, vital, and a sought-after venue for decades to come.
